Dean Medina
Dean Medina is a musician, intimate events organiser, copywriter, and a bringer-of-people-together-er. He is the founder of Amsterdam Music Project, and as the organiser of The Rooftop Jazz Club and the Friday After Work Sessions at Zoku, you'll certainly run in to him in our Social Spaces.

What brought you to Amsterdam?
Escape from North America, explore Europe. Found love, moved back home to Canada, returned to Amsterdam for love, and then fell in love with the city and now have a little Dutch baby.
What path has your career taken?
I've been all sorts of things: a singer of Singing Telegrams (dressed up as Elvis, a sailor, a cop - maybe they expected something else from me now that I think about it...); driver of beer bicycles in Amsterdam (don't ask), an extra in TV and film, community development, marketeer (ugh), storytelling and copywriting, and now music experiences.

What does home mean to you?
Home is when I feel most connected to the people around me and my surroundings. It could be after living somewhere for 10 years, or an hour spent with complete strangers, in an new land, connecting over good food, stories and music.

Which book have you gifted the most, and why?
Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls. I'm a father now, and it's just an awesome book about rebellious characters from history - we need a bit more rebel in all of us! Might as well start young :-)
