Did you know that the workers at one of Spain’s most prominent wineries leave glasses of sherry out for the mice each day? The tradition has continued for many decades, but in recent years, the mice of Tío Pepe have become internet sensations thanks to tourists posting on YouTube and Instagram. We (thankfully) don’t have any resident mice here at Zoku, but we do have an ample supply of sherry should you need it.

What path has your career taken?
I’ve worked in about 25 jobs across 7 different industries in roles ranging from project management building dream homes across New York City, to directing a tech camp, to radio hosting and artist management helping independent musicians reach the right audiences and build sustainable careers.
I’ve always been driven by my curiosity and followed my gut to explore the causes, topics and industries that interested me the most: education, arts, culture, entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation, human development, the future of work, construction and design - helping me hone in on what I’m great at: heart-centered communication & storytelling, human connection, and designing environments that catalyze transformation.

What brought you/brings you to Amsterdam?
A combination of work and play. For the past three years I’ve been visiting to speak and moderate at The Next Web Conference and have also spoken at other events including TEDxAmsterdam and Thought for Food Summit. While I’m here, I always carve out time to try new food, experience art and cultural exhibitions, listen to live music, explore different parts of the city, and hangout with local friends and make new connections.

I’ve stayed at Zoku for a week at a time. It’s the perfect base for me to relax, enjoy a home cooked meal in the Living Kitchen, take meetings, generate ideas and create new business opportunities.

Which book have you gifted the most, and why?
There’s two I gift the most. One is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I think it’s a great book for both starting over and remembering who you are. If we’re lucky, we begin again and become so many different versions of ourselves in a lifetime and this book reminds me that whatever happens, we’re always ok and it’s all on purpose.

And the second is my book, Tell Me About Yourself. It’s an action guide designed to help interdisciplinary creative professionals authentically discuss their craft, foster genuine connections, and confidently articulate their purpose and value in high stakes conversations and interactions. It’s my contribution to an ever-changing innovation economy and climate that demands we put our best foot forward to create change.

What does home mean to you?
A piece of peace. A space (physical or otherwise) where you can let your guard down and be your full self alone or among people you love and cherish.

FOR YOUR AGENDA...
There's no Planet B: learn to understand and manage climate-related risks.
