What brought you/brings you to Amsterdam?
I've relocated to Amsterdam for work, but the fact that the Netherlands ranks as the tallest country in the world was a major draw. Also, the bicycles.
How long have you stayed at Zoku Amsterdam, and what were your thoughts?
I was a
long stay resident at Zoku Amsterdam for almost a month and it's been great. I stayed here once before in the summer so knew I liked the space. It's been a perfect starter apartment in a new city, the bonus of the Rooftop Bar and Social Spaces and
Community events have been great for someone relocating to a new country solo.
What’s a life-changing song, film, event or book you’d like to recommend to others?
Sevdaliza, Omeara London, 2017. An actual life-changing gig, I don't think I've been to a show on that level since. You can watch the whole thing
on youtube thanks to NTS (I had it on repeat for weeks after). You can't recreate the weight and energy in that room but it's still the best way to spend the next hour and 12 minutes!
What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
You're doing great, I'm proud of you.
What’s your current/newly discovered go-to product, service or app you would recommend to others and why?
My go to London apps:
DICE - a gig and ticketing app, they cover a huge range of artists and genres with a great waitlist function that avoids reselling sites and inflated prices;
Infatuation - the best international restaurant recommendations app - anything above an 8.0 is a sure bet. Rudely it doesn't cover Amsterdam yet but surely that's the next step!
New Amsterdam apps:
Which book/product have you gifted the most, and why?
If you could pick one project to work on for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Whatever
Ava DuVernay is thinking about right now. She's a leader of change in the industry, shifting the culture and creating important work (everyone should see her documentary
13TH and the miniseries
When They See Us).
What is one piece of advice or tip in your field of work that you want to give to people?
Think of Spike Lee, do the right thing.
