What path has your career taken?
I’ve been an entrepreneur for 16 years now. Built and sold some great companies, ranging from an eco-friendly Cleaning Company, a Wellness Spa, Living Christmas Trees, and now a Technology Firm. Prior to that I was in Property Management and obtained my California Real Estate license right out of high school instead of going to university. It’s nice after all these years later to now be back in the real estate sector by building tech that will create more efficiencies and facilitate building human connection and communities around the world.
How long have you stayed at Zoku, and what were your thoughts?
I was Co-working from Zoku in June/July this year after Techstars ended. I didn’t really know many people yet in Amsterdam but while working at Zoku each day I would meet the most amazing humans from around the world. Incredible conversations and positive energy. Even the Zoku staff would treat me like family. They’ve mastered the art of building community and facilitating connections, it was quite impressive. Also, the healthy daily food was a huge plus and it was always nice to treat friends to brunch there when they were visiting AMS. Then I moved back to California, however I was back at Zoku as a resident again last month and plan on being back at least quarterly - Amsterdam is such an incredible city and it’s nice to now have a second home at Zoku to come to.
Which book/product have you gifted the most, and why?
The book, “Tools of Titans
” I gifted out to at least 30 people already. It’s an incredible book, plus I’ve always been a Tim Ferriss fan from back in his 4-Hour Workweek
days (another favorite book of mine).
What’s a life-changing song, film, event or book you’d like to recommend to others?
is a life-changing event. I went for the first time this year (end of August). If it is on your bucket list you MUST check it off. The people, the incredible art instillations, the informative talks, freedom and lack of any judgement. It is amazing how creativity and community is able to thrive and blossom in the middle of the Nevada desert with 70,000 people for only 1 week….. Then it all disappears like it was just a dream.
Also cell phones do NOT WORK there, which made it even more special. Nice to disconnect for 7 days straight.
The best way I can put it: “It’s like visiting another planet, while still being on Earth.”
What does home mean to you?
It’s never the house itself, it’s the people you live alongside of. It’s the laughs, the fun, the sharing of experiences, and the GROWTH that happens when you live with people from different backgrounds, upbringings, and hobbies. I’ve been personally Coliving for years now and I am the biggest advocate. Excited to see that it is becoming a global movement for people of all ages.
What is one piece of advice or tip in your field of work that you want to give to people?
Humans are capable of so much more than we think. Just stay focused, disciplined, and surround yourself with like-minded people who inspire you, push you to be your best, and support you in your growth.
