Did you know that Saturns’ rings aren’t very old compared to the rest of the Solar System? We’re about halfway through their 200 million year lifespan and are lucky to be alive to witness them. A stegosaurus looking at Saturn with a telescope would not have been able to see the rings at all. Then again, we get the impression that dinosaurs didn’t try that hard with astronomy, so the story checks out on a few different levels.

Airtable

Digital widget for organizing your fidgets

Project management tools can often be a productivity trap. The effort it takes your team to learn the software can often end up negating the productivity gains of having the project mapped out — at least in the beginning. Airtable tries to fix this by giving teams the functionality of a bespoke database with the simplicity of a spreadsheet. Give it a try.

THE HELL OF LIFE ADMIN - AND HOW TO GET ON TOP

14-minute read | The Guardian

Are you buried in post-it notes? The average adult carries out 108 life admin tasks each year, from sorting out car insurance to renewing passports, and some academics are describing how it can create ‘errand paralysis’. Our own method for avoiding this trap is to simply avoid as many life activities as possible, which eases the pile of life admin considerably. For everyone else, though, this article is full of useful tips and tricks.

SCIENTISTS DISCOVER UNLIKELY SOURCE FOR STRESS IN THE BODY

4-minute read | Inverse

If life admin is getting you down, you may be surprised to discover that it’s not the original source of all human stress. Tim Morris
Tim Morris (or Timothy if he is in trouble) is a Program Manager at Uber in The Netherlands at Uber's Amsterdam HQ. Tim's career has taken many twists and turns….from paper boy at the age of 7, to hospo in his teens, then retail management in his early 20s, to public service and now tech. According to Tim, he said he would be lying if he said he had a master plan - but according to him, so far so good!
What brought you/brings you to Amsterdam?
An old mentor once told me “change is as good as a holiday” and that really stuck with me. I loved my job in Australia, but I had to shake it up….and where else you you rather add some spice to life than right here in sunny Amsterdam?

How long have you stayed at Zoku, and what were your thoughts?
I bounced around SOOOO MANY hotels, Airbnb’s, couches, etc. etc. to try and find the right Apartment here in Amsty. At the time of writing this I have been in Amsterdam ~5 months with a good chunk of that living the Zoku life. I have already recommended it to a stack of mates and colleagues and they are all blown away with what they discover.

What’s a life-changing song, film, event or book you’d like to recommend to others?
Ok don’t judge me here...but the album “Justin Bieber - Purpose” (ideally the acoustic version). It’s actually been somewhat of a spiritual guide for me the past few years, and it’s helped me find my passion and purpose in life more than I could have ever dreamt!
For the book lovers out there, “How to win friends and Influence People”. It’s an oldie but a goodie - even if you hate reading just do yourself a favor and read this one back to front. You might not know it at the time but it will stick with you.
As for movies...damn that’s a hard choice, but one movie that has always stuck in mind is “Blow” (watch the trailer). It’s a Johnny Depp classic and one of the most underrated movies of all time IMO. Also what made me think I could become a Pirate from Penzance one day (grrr).

What advice would you give to your 20 year old self?
Just be yourself kid. And if they don’t like it f*ck em.

What’s your current/newly discovered go-to product, service or app you would recommend to others and why?
Ok working at Uber I am massively biased here - but JUMP!!!! It’s now integrated into the same Uber app you know and love in a stack of cities and it’s bloody beautiful. Although anything that gets me a scooter on the spot is pretty good in my books - if you ever rode a bike or a scooter as a kid, this one's for you.

Which book/product have you gifted the most, and why?
Nothing beats a handwritten note. The people who keep them safe are the people whom you should keep safe.

If you could pick one project to work on for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
I love all animals. If there is a sick animal, I will try and save it. It’s not easy to “monetise” ideas like this quickly , however, I think it’s something Venture Capitalists (or anyone with a few spare $/€/time) should rally behind. Even though it’s the “Animal Kingdom” I think it could use a little more human kindness.
