Priit Pavelson has had a career that carried him through various industries, developing his entrepreneurial passion. This led him to his current role as owner of an early stage startup called allies, which aims at solving efficiency and deal flow problems for digital vendors – agencies and software dev houses – and their clients.

What path has your career taken?

My career has revolved around running entrepreneurial experiments. For the past 10 years, I’ve done everything from publishing books, selling products to hotels (incl Zoku :)) to running web portals. Some of these experiments I ran for way too long, failed, and others enjoyed moderate success. But all of this has taken me to my current venture, something that I am proud of and happy with.

What brought you/brings you to Amsterdam?

I lived in NL for 8 years, and it took me 7 y living in The Hague to realize that Amsterdam is really the place to be (sorry Hagenaars :)). While I moved back to my home town Tallinn, Amsterdam is the home away from home; where I have friends, where I understand the vibe and feel like a local.

How long have you stayed at Zoku, and what were your thoughts?

Actually, I can kind of say that my current company was founded at (or because of) Zoku. I use it as my office when in Amsterdam – so the length I’ve stayed at Zoku can be measured in months.

I enjoy the thin line between work and fun; it’s as natural to have business meetings as it is to have beers or dinner with friends. So the people at Zoku have succeeded in creating the perfect balance there.

What’s a life-changing song, film, event or book you’d like to recommend to others?

I prefer books, although lately my mind has been a bit too busy to read as much as I’d like. If you want to go deep then Vadim Zeland – Reality Transurfing, or much more down to earth Seneca – Letters from a Stoic. But for a book, song, film etc to be life-changing, it’s not how deep it is, it’s probably much more about the timing, whether it resonates with you at that given moment.

Which book/product have you gifted the most, and why?

Perhaps an interesting one is when I gave the above mentioned Reality Transurfing to a close friend who was surfing high on the 2017 cryptowave. Reality Transurfing explains about being under the influence of pendulums – and the ’17 cryptowave was an incredibly strong pendulum. I was, perhaps naively, hoping the book would help him diversify his investment portfolio, which of course did not happen and reality hit in ’18. So, whatever may have been life changing for myself, it was not the right moment for him to take in what the book had to offer.

What advice would you give to your 20 year old self?

Get your finances together – that allows to enjoy life a bit, you’ll be working hard anyway for a long time to come.

What’s your current/newly discovered go-to product, service or app you would recommend to others and why?
