Dan Carter is an online content creator, freelance photographer and blogger, creating stories around travel, lifestyle, fitness and coffee. He stayed at Zoku in 2018 whilst visiting Amsterdam for the World Barista Championships.
What path has your career taken?
When I first picked up a camera, I had no idea that I was paving the path for a career that I didn’t even know existed. Over the last few years my career has evolved into online content creation, that is using writing, photography and videography to tell stories that are shared online, mainly my Instagram page @dancarter.
I stayed at Zoku for 3 or 4 nights during my trip to Amsterdam, and unlike most hotels I stay in when I travel, I based myself at Zoku for the majority of my trip. I really enjoyed the communal work space and had many productive afternoons, reading and writing on the rooftop terrace; it was the perfect work space.
What is a life-changing book you’d recommend to others?
Without question, ‘Everybody, Always’ by Bob Goff. Not only is it my favourite book but it’s a book that I have gifted time and time again, with humorous but equally profound life lessons for every stage of life. I’ve never laughed and cried so many times in so few pages.
What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
You don’t have to see all the steps to begin moving forward. In fact, it will hinder your progress when you try to guess too many steps ahead. Take things one step at a time, stay true to your ‘why’ and trust the process. And don’t feel guilty for having fun along the way!
