Creative Mornings Amsterdam is a free, monthly breakfast lecture series for the creative community. Each event includes a 20-minute talk, coffee and croissants.
In this session, Creative Mornings is returning to Zoku for an empowering event on the global theme ‘Taboo’, with creative entrepreneur Mariah Mansvelt Beck. She will be speaking about using the power of creativity to bring sensitive topics up for discussion.
About the speaker: After obtaining her MPhil at the University of Cambridge, Mariah spent seven years working for Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). In 2011, a specialist advised her to start using organic tampons and pads; this was the first time she’d ever thought her sanitary choices. Upon investigation, she found that not only are many tampons and pads made from synthetic materials (containing plastics and perfume) but there aren’t specific rules or legal requirements when it comes to listing ingredients on feminine care packaging.
That’s why in 2014, Mariah and friend Wendelien Hebly founded Yoni, organic cotton tampons, pads and panty liners. While breaking the silence and starting healthy conversations about periods, they aim to increase awareness of how the female cycle actually works and what happens in the female body leading up to the taboo-ridden moment of menstruation.
Our event space will open at 8.30am for breakfast, followed by Mariah’s talk at 9am, and we’re all off to work at 10am! Tickets for the event will be released on Monday, March 20th at 9am – so set your alarms, this event is usually booked out within the hour.
