A few weeks ago Zoku received the Radical Innovation Award in New York. Zoku was nominated as a finalist out of 50 entries from 18 countries. Here’s a short story on how we experienced these exciting days:
Acting as a catalyst for new ideas in hotel design, concepts and business models, The Radical Innovation Award challenges designers, developers, hospitality professionals and students to put forward ideas that have the power to change the industry. The board and the jury of the Radical Innovation Award are representatives of the hospitality industry: their expertise differ from design and investment to development.
During the exciting finalists event we shared the stage with the runner-up Snoozebox. Snoozebox is a ground-breaking hospitality concept which, quite literally, brings the hotel to you. As a portable hotel, Snoozebox offers on-site accommodation at, for example, festivals and events in the UK and Europe. Take a look at their website and get a visual impression of this ingenious construction. With such a smart concept, we truly think Snoozebox can and will make a difference in the industry. Keep on being different Snoozebox!
During the actual ceremony in the New Museum in New York City, we were challenged to impress the judges and audience with a 10-minute presentation about Zoku. After the presentation, the judges were able to ask questions for further explanation on certain topics. John Hardy, CEO of The John Hardy Group and founder of the Radical Innovation Competition, stated that the presentation about the concept of Zoku was a decisive incentive for the audience to vote for Zoku: “The audience saw the concept as one could make a difference in the hotel industry within the short-term.”
With live-support from Zoku’s design team, concrete, the inspiring architects who designed the Zoku lofts and social spaces, we took this gorgeous prize (Image: courtesy of SITU Studio) back to Amsterdam.
We are extremely honoured for winning and would like to thank everyone who has supported Zoku over the past few years. With the prize money, we can keep improving and tweaking the Zoku concept until it’s ready to welcome you with open arms in the beginning of 2016.
